Over time, your shower valve may become clogged with mineral deposits, causing an irregular flow of water. The following step-by-step guide explain how to clean the valve.
Note: To ensure optimal performance, Kohler Co. recommends replacing the pressure balancing unit.
The appearance of your valve may vary, however these instructions still apply.
1.
Turn off the water supply.
2.
Rotate the handle to the ON position to relieve water pressure.
3.
Unthread the two screws from the valve body.
4.
Remove the black cap.
5.
Pull out the pressure balancing unit.
CAUTION: Avoid using other cleaning products that may damage the valve.
1.
Locate the aspirator tube at the back of the valve body.
2.
Using a rag, wipe the inside of the valve body dry from residual water.
3.
Using a cotton swab soaked with vinegar, remove the mineral deposits from the aspirator tube and the inside of the valve body.
Note: You may need to repeat this application multiple times to ensure all deposits are removed.
4.
Using a damp rag, remove any remaining deposits inside the valve body.

Install the pressure balancing unit into the valve body.
Note: To avoid leakage inside the wall, make sure the O-ring is properly secured around the black cap.
2.
Secure the black cap onto the valve body with the two screws.
3.
Turn on the water supply.
4.
Rotate the handle to the ON and OFF position to check for leaks, ensuring the seals are properly secured.
