K-304 Valve - Adding a Transfer/Diverter Valve

Affected SKUs

K-304-* Rite-Temp® Pressure Balancing Valve

If K-304 Needs Additional Outlets

  • If additional ports are needed for your shower configuration when using a K-304 valve, an additional valve can be added above the top port at the location shown.

  • Kohler Co. recommends a K-728 transfer valve or K-737 diverter valve be installed following the installation instructions provided with the valve.

  • For more information on the K-728 transfer valve or K-737 diverter valve, including installation instructions, go to the product page at www.us.kohler.com.

Configuration Options

IMPORTANT: Do not install a valve with a shut-off after the shower port, as this may result in cross-flow between ports.

Note: If the transfer or diverter valve is only being used as a 2-way valve, a 2-way conversion must be completed following the instructions provided with the valve.

Option 1 - Shower Port Facing Up

Note: The standard installation orientation of the K-304 valve has the shower port facing up.

Note: The shower outlet only allows 4 gpm (15 lpm) flow rate. If a shower and handshower will be used at the same time, there may be low flow unless lower flow devices are installed.

  • Install the K-304 following the instructions provided with the valve.

  • Install a K-728 transfer valve or K-737 diverter valve in-line with the top outlet following the instructions provided with the valve.

  • If two outlets will be used, convert the K-728 or K-737 valve to a 2-way valve following the instructions provided with the valve.

Option 2 - Bath Spout Port Facing Up

Note: The K-304 valve will act as volume and temperature control.

Note: Depending on the settings on the diverter valve, the bath may not be the first component to turn on.

Note: The bath outlet allows 5 gpm (19 lpm) flow rate. Flow rate should be adequate for a typical shower and handshower being used at the same time.

  • Install the K-304 following the instructions provided with the valve, but rotate the valve 180 degrees so the bath spout outlet is on top.

  • Cap the valve outlet port on the bottom of the K-304 after it is rotated.

  • Install a K-728 transfer valve or K-737 diverter valve in-line with the top outlet following the instructions provided with the valve.

  • Plumb the components to the 3-way diverter.
